3 and 1/2 stars??? Go home Yelp reviewers, you're drunk. This is hands down the best roast beef sandwich out there. Very quick service as they have the meat ready to be sliced, great roll, better au ju sauce. Go here!

Whats not to love about Anthonys. Not 1 thing. I love the rostabeef, on an onion roll. I have had friends who drove down to OC just fpor the great roast beef sandwiches. My Dad came here to Anthonys starting in 1959. All through the 1960's,1970's 1980's1990's. When I drive back I best be backing 4 large Roast Beef sandwiches in my ice chest when I stop off in Annapolis. Love the black T shirt $13, Hooded sweat shirt $29, $31 with tax.

Today, my boyfriend and I actually stumbled upon Anthony's. We just check-out and was looking for a quick bite to eat and came upon Anthony's. The food was delicious. My boyfriend got the Cheesesteak with all the toppings, I got the breakfast sandwich - sausage, eggs, & cheese on wheat & small fries, which I felt was better than Thrasher fries. The prices were reasonable. There were bench seating outside and their was 50s music playing. This place is open from 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily. We will definitely be coming back to this place again.

Love the hand carved roast beef

Great breakfast sandwiches. Cool atmosphere. Very busy on peak summer times so arrive early. Cash only.

Anthony's is legendary in OC, from locals to tourist. They have the absolute best breakfast sandwiches in OC. Egg cheese and you choice of meat piled high between your choice of toast. Don't forget the lava hot coffee. You know its good when you can watch them carving the ham in the window. This place has become a frequent post dawn patrol haunt of high over the years. So much so that I almost prefer it over my own mothers breakfast sandwiches. A ham (or scrapple) egg and cheese sandwich with a small (12oz) coffee costs about $6.50, which is great considering the portion of meat you get. I've only had breakfast there so I'm unable to speak to rest of the food, but why would you order anything else. Gotta love the classic oldies while you dine (Elvis, Beach Boys, etc).

Breakfast, lunch & dinner!!!!!!!!!! CHOMP!!!!!! Absolutely must eat here! Steak & Cheese, Ham & Cheese, etc...ALL GOOD!

I actually went to Anthony's for breakfast. I had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel. It was awesome and hot. The bacon was perfect and the eggs were just done correctly. Friendly staff too.

The highlight of my trips to Ocean City is because of Anthony's - I always get their egg sandwiches my family / friends / coworkers get everything else and it is always amazing - Friendly staff and fast service.

I've been meaning to right a review on this place since this past summer when I went. It was about 9ish when my girlfriends and I strolled in looking for a bite after a long drive and a dramatic day after being kicked out of our hotel for sneaking in two dogs, hehe (fyi, ocean city only has like 5 hotels that are pet friendly and they book very quick in the summer. We were lucky to find what we did on such short notice, as shitty as it was). The sandwich was made fresh to order with the meat piled so high I separated the meats in half between the two bread slices just so I could bite it. The roast beef was tender and well seasoned and was highly complimented by the swiss I asked to be generously caressed over it. The bread was soft and fresh; like a place who has frequent customers would have. I was able to take pictures of the front but once I saw/devoured the sandwich, yelp was the last thing on my mind. Bravo Anthony! I will see you again in the summer!

I love a good cold cut sub. I have had them all over the world, and always have fond memories of Anthony's in OC MD. Perhaps my review is a little harsh since I have high expectations, but I was very disappointed. Perhaps the fact that my sandwich was already made before I completed my order was a sign. I would rate my sub as below average at best. I personally hate it when the bread is very stale, and is not fresh. The meats were obviously of discount deli quality, with some kind of watered down mayonnaise. Another OC MD institution bites the dust. If I ever go to OC MD again I will have to try a different sub shop.

My wife and I ate here during our vacation in OC. It's a cool little place and the Turkey Clubs and fries that we had were excellent.

  • Shayne B.

This place is awesome! You pretty much only need to look at one part of the menu.... The sandwich section. They have fresh sliced roast beef and ham and any fixings you might want on them. I highly recommend the roast beef with a side of au jus. Juicy, salty, and delicious.

  • Paul D.

WOW! This place is what I think of when I fondly remember beach food from my childhood. They have great hand cut french fries. Big beer battered onion rings. But most of all The Best Roast Beef Anywhere! In the front window sits the carvers table with a whole roast and a whole ham, so you can watch them cut off slices and make your sandwich. You can dine inside or al fresco on one of the picnic tables right out front on Ocean Highway. I recommend getting what they are known for and that's a simple Roast Beef Sandwich. It comes on an onion roll and you can get whatever you want on it. Make sure to ask for a side of au jus, it's fantastic. My buddy got a Roast Beef Sub and he loved it too. Their portions are big as I could only eat half of my sandwich, but I saved the other half and finished it later. You can also get various other 7 & 12 inch subs if roast beef isn't your thing, but I can't speak to their quality. Overall, Prices are reasonable and eating at Anthony's was a Memorable Beach Experience.

No dad, turn around. This is not THE Anthony's. Fine, let's just go in.

  • Evan L.

My wife and I decided to drop by Anthony's for some carry out before heading to the beach. Having heard it compared to the Southside Deli in Ocean Pines, I had high hopes. However, Anthony's is a different beast entirely. FYI, the portions are H-U-G-E. The menu at Anthony's covers mostly pizza, subs, and handcut fries. A "small" sub runs about $7-9 but is easily enough for one person with a hearty appetite. A large sub is just insane. How does it stack against the Southside Deli's subs? It's all a matter of quantity versus quality. Anthony's subs may stack a ton of meat on their subs but the Southside deli's subs are just a world apart in terms of quality. The fries are decent but, really, just go to Thrasher's if that's what you're looking for.

This place might not look like much but the breakfast is fast, yummy and cheap. Love the scrapple sandwich. They lose one star for crappy coffee.

    (4)
  • Tara M.

Everyone seems to mention the roast beef that they are so famous for, but you seem to be missing breakfast. Their breakfast sandwiches are just like grandma used to make. Piled high and tastey!

    (5)
  • Ali S.

Terrible breakfast! Buisquik pancakes with a cheap plastic fork that couldn't even hold a piece of the pancake. They used sliced American cheese on my scrambled eggs.... then put my hot cakes on top so they had cheese stuck to them....but I guess the roast beef looked ok? I will never go back.

    (1)
  • William F.

If you love the food that 50's and 60's drive ins and car hops served, then you'll love Anthony's Carryout..... they do have picnic tables outside, and a few booths inside so that you can eat your meal, or get it to go and take it to the beach! Anthony's claim to fame is their steamship round of beef sandwiches.... also, take in the bacon cheeseburger and fresh cut fries.... they have a full menu, so be sure to go and start sampling today, you'll be glad you did!!!!!

  • B T.

This is my favorite sub shop in OC. Roast Beef is their signature sub. Pricey but it is great and ver very meaty. All their portions are generous. Steak and Cheese is with real Ribeye meat. Fresh cut onion rings and fries.

  • Mary T.

We've been going to Anthony's for over 30 years. They have the best roast beef sandwich on the east coast. Anthony's is our first stop whenever we visit OC. Their breakfast sandwiches are awesome. It's always busy especially with the locals so you know it has to be good. Pizza and fries are great but the roast beef is second to none!

    (5)
  • Sabine M.

We had the cheese steak, Reuben, pizza and fries. Pricey. All really tasty. Fast and friendly service. Take cash. They don't take charge cards.

  • Paul T.

Want a SUB?! A big SUB? Go to Anthonys. They fix you up with a old fashion sub from years gone by. Fast, great staff and great food.

    (5)
  • Matt S.

Not bad, sort of what you would expect. I got the roast beef sub and it was pretty good. I agree with past reviews in which you feel rushed when ordering, so look at the menu before you go. Also, I did see a worker do the butt slide over the counter, but who cares because your food never touches it (its wrapped and on a tray). Its a nice place if you want to grab some sandwiches and sides and go back to your hotel. The sandwiches seem fine, but nothing out of this world.

    (3)
  • David M.

I've been eating at Anthony's for 20 years. I've only had their subs but they are all great - cheesesteak, ham, roast beef - all of them are good. The service is quick and friendly.

    (5)
  • Kevin T.

YUM! I wish I had the opportunity to try a few things off of their menu, but I only had the opportunity for their breakfast. I went around 1pm, so I am assuming they serve breakfast all day long. I had the bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel, and it was loaded with flavor. My cousin had the fried chicken, fries, and cole slaw and thought it was phenomenal. It was not her first time though... she is an annual visitor of Anthony's when she vacations in OCMD every year. For their small BUT very busy environment, service was friendly and quick!

    (4)
  • Marissa M.

First time in OC and when i come back i will be coming here. Their breakfast sandwichs are phenomenal, the cheeseburger sub is to die for. I have a few days left so im sure I'll be going back. Words cant express how great this food is, if your in OC you need to visit anthonys

    (5)
  • Minna W.

I split a breakfast platter with my husband and was left with wanting a little more for the price I paid. Perhaps a breakfast sandwich would have been a better choice since a lot of reviews speak highly of them...? The service was quick and friendly, which is a plus. If we stay closeby again, I might check it out again for some other menu items, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back again.

    (3)
  • Dan H.

Continues to be the best place for lunch! My parents think the quality has gone down a bit, but I tend to disagree. The ham and cheese and cheeseburger subs are as good as any! The French Fries are reminiscent of thrashers and excellent. The price tends to be very expensive, but so is everything in this town.. Overall a great lunch spot!

Alright so even though walking in was a bit awkward this place had really good food. When we walked, we were the only ones inside and we didn't have cash so we had to get some out of the atm. after they said hello, they all just proceeded to stare at us for 3 mins while we got cash out. I'm talking the cashiers and the whole kitchen crew. Like they never seen anyone get cash from the atm? Idk anyways, after we ordered they were still kind of awkward and finally we sat down to wait for our food. The food was quick and amazing! I had pulled pork sandwich which was moist and flavorful. and my boyfriend had a steak and cheese which was one of the best I've had. Really good place but awkward employees. Oh and the fries are super good too! It's a good place to eat with a family bc they have a huge tables outside, and a lot of different foods!

    (4)
  • Joe L.

Probably a mistake to order chicken. More greasy than KFC but their fries are very generous. My friend says their beef was good. It's a 2 for me, a 4 for him...so we settle on a 3 rating.

    (3)
  • Dana M.

Four of us ate breakfast here and it was good. Nothing gourmet or extravagant but it was good, quick, and the place was clean. Also, the people were friendly. We would return and also recommend this place.

  • Krystal A.

Best beef in town!! It's a must stop when we are in OC. A bit pricey, but well worth the money! Breakfast sandwiches are HUGE and super yummy too! Same owner and a few of the same familiar faces every year for as long as I can remember...Been coming here since the 80's! Great fried chicken, great burgers, great pizza, GREAT EVERYTHING! Just stop, you won't be disappointed!!!

  • Cassie J.

Was recommended to go here by a friend.. she told me they had "amazing roast beef sammies". Meh. There was no flavor in the beef. It was dry. Couldn't even taste the cheese it was so dry.

This place was right near my car on 17th street, so I figured it was fate when I found it by just crossing the street from CVS. The service was kinda pushy when we were inside; there wasn't even a line or crowd but they seemed to rush us in choosing our order. That is my only qualm. Other than that, the price was sort of high for a sandwich, around $10 after taxes for a small, but since I read so many reviews about how its the "best roast beef" and hand-carved, I took a chance and purchased one. The roast beef sandwich came on a soft kaiser roll, which complemented it very well. They give you a HUGE amount of roast beef, so the $10 price for a "smaller/regular" sandwich seems reasonable now. The quality of the meat was great, it was a little red but SUPER tender and delicious. I had this sandwich with lettuce, tomato, onion, lite mayo. The next day, it was still great after refrigeration but a little soggy. I suggest taking a bite into it right after they make it. PURE ROAST BEEF LOVE. Thumbs up. Something a lil' different if you're sick of seafood around Ocean City.

  • Nancy N.

The best breakfast when you're sober and hungover. The best roast beef ever, I hate roast beef but Anthony's does it right! No complaints. This place is cash only and gets crowded some mornings. It's totally worth the wait.

    (5)
  • Matt B.

Not really sure what the hype is about. The roast beef was edible but super dry. I guess it's the nostalgia that keep people coming back; however it's not really worth the trip. Im pretty sure they paid the Fonz to show up at the restaurant. The place is ok nothing special. Still not sure why it got such a high rating.

    (2)
  • Jordan B.

I didn't just eat a beef sandwich - I licked the elbow of an angel. 5/5, would return. The $10 was worth every penny for this beefy sensation.

  • M C.

This is what you want when you're on vacation. A joint that's been pumping out good food for a long time. Established in 1954 with an appropriately campy neon sign, this is the place for ham, roast beef and the best fried chicken on the strip. Good breakfast, little pricey, but oh that ham & egg on a roll! Pretty damn good coffee too. Cash only, but they have an ATM for three bucks.

    (5)
  • Robert K.

I forgot how good a simple roast beef sandwich could be. Anthony's reminded me. So in Ocean City it's hard to find quality sometimes but Anthony's is one of the original restaurants that made the city special before it became a tourist attraction. The sandwiches are big, they are willing to make whatever you ask for. I with-held one star only because the inside could use a renovation to match it's amazing food. Other then that this place is worth every penny you pay. Side note: last time I went the owner himself was slicing up a big hunk of delicious meat right I the window. That's a sign of someone who cares about what they serve!

Our favorite sandwich shop In Ocean City for as long as I can remember! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner....you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu! Best breakfast sandwich at the beach by far!!! Cheeseburger sub is huge and has great flavor!

Lets get the basics out of the way....It's almost always fast, it's always delicious, it's comforting. The building is hectic from 8 am onwards during the summer. Cash only-- don't complain.. it's always been that way. Not everyone wants to take your credit cards. (there's an ATM if you need it). Menu is big enough to please most people but not so big you can't decide. My absolute FAVORITE thing on the menu is the Ham, Egg and Cheese on Roll. Freshly carved ham. You can't beat it. It's so good. It's soooo good once it hits your lips. AND they have Dr. Pepper. So...yes. As someone who grew up in Ocean City from age 6 to age 28 (and my family still lives there).... I need to say something about Anthony's that isn't JUST about this particular experience. Let's just call it some sappy nostalgia. When I checked in to Anthony's for this particular trip, my brother who lives in Baltimore now messaged me on facebook, "NOOOOOOOO. I haven't been in SO LONG." He told my mother later on that of course he misses his family and friends, but when he saw my check in at Anthony's he immediately felt nostalgic for home. Now of course, the people who own and work at Anthony's know they make a good breakfast sandwich, but I doubt they know how nostalgic eating at this place can be for people, whether its on vacation or locals. When I was little, my dad or grandparents would wake up early, drive all the way down here (at the time we lived on 118th street in OC) and all the way back just for their breakfast sandwich....and its all wrapped up like a little present. I associate our early morning breakfasts in the fall, spring and summer with this place and whenever I go back now I have all of those memories that come with it. Blah blah cliffnotes: It's awesome.

BIG BEEF!!! We stumbled upon Anthony's on our first trip to Ocean City, and now we get the beef sandwich every time we come. With some american cheese, it's the perfect sandwich to eat on the beach right before getting in. It's so delicious, even through every bite is accompanied with a little bit of beach sand. With stacks of beef on beef, it's just the right amount of protein to fuel a day of swimming in the ocean. The sandwiches are large enough that I usually split one with my boyfriend. We also stop off at Thrashers to grab a side of fries. Is it one of the best roast beef sandwiches I've ever had? Probably.

  • Dan B.

Incredible food!!! My wife and I split a large cheese-steak (lettus, tomato, grilled onions, and "hots"), small French fries, and pepsi. In one word, it was.... fantastic! High quality sandwich steak was used along with the fresh French bread. It's been a long time since I had such a good sub. Even during the off-season, there was a line of 10 waiting to be served. The fries were cooked to a perfect brown, dusted with sea salt, and served hot. A small fry is definitely enough for two. From the front of the shop's display window, you can observe their carving station, carving up fresh steamship roast beef and ham. We're going back tomorrow for sure, my wife for a roast beef sandwich and me for another swing at the cheese-steak. Anthony's Carryout serves up a fantastic cheese-steak gut bomb!

Going back to ocean city next week for our annual family trip . Can't wait to have a sandwich from Anthony's again ! So delicious !!

OMG!!! I am sooo full, I feel like exploding! Good place if you are starving. Seating inside in air conditioning or outside at picnic tables. Fries are fresh cut and fried in PEANUT OIL. Emphasis put on that in case you have a Peanut Allergy! And IMO fries taste better. In our party 2 had the Roast Beef on Kaiser, 1 of us had the Roast Beef sub and I had the Rueben. We had 2 medium orders of fries for the 4 of us. One order probably would have been enough. Beef is very tender, Rueben was good it is on light Rye bread....I prefer dark, but no big deal. After I was done with my sandwich the wife said...."here finish my other half" Really? Hold on let my switch to my other stomach dear! Think twice before ordering a large of anything here... All portions are large and flavor is good. Tip: ask fo AusJus if ordering the beef...it adds extra flavor!

The breakfast sandwiches here are simply amazing! The atmosphere is great, has a 50's theme to it. Staff is friendly and quick. AND... Just when you think this place could not get any cooler.. The Fonz ate here!!

  • Imdabossapplesauce S.

I used to eat here a lot as a kid when my family would go to Ocean City for vacation. We decided to drop by this evening instead of driving all the way to Nick's for ribs. The food was ok. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was good. The fries were ok. My steak and cheese sub would have been perfect if it weren't dripping and slightly soggy and unlike another review with complaints of not enough mayonnaise I thought there was a little too much mayonnaise. If they made sure to toast the entire sub roll, not put too much mayo on it and didn't wrap food up in paper for those dining in (maybe a basket or plate!) the experience would've been better. I threw away maybe half my sub because of soggy wet bread and too much mayo. Overall the food was average, a few small changes could have made it much better. The seating inside is really cramped and hasn't changed since I ate there last (over 20 years ago). There's some seating outside but its right on a street corner and noisy.

I discovered Anthony's on my first trip to Ocean City 2 months ago and after so many of the other Yelpers recommended it, I had to give it a try. I was impressed enough with this place to eat here 3 days in a row and have few complaints. That being said: -Not sure if extra mayo means regular mayo to these folks but their roast beef tends to be cut thick and on the dry side. I actually prefer my food a little dry but I rely on condiments to provide a balance. Make sure to ask for a few packs of mayo. They had packs of vinegar and bbq sauce (2 condiments which I have new seen in pack form before but were graciously offered) so they should have mayo too. -My husband thought his chesesteak was good but a bit drippy. He's not really particular about his food but he did mention this so it must have been important. -Lastly and this not so much about the food but not sure the best way for the counter girl to move from the kitchen to the dining area is to slide over the counter, making butt contact with where patrons may place their money. Yes this place is kind of divey but eww All in all, hot, fresh fried chicken, good hot French fries (cooked in peanut oil) decent subs and very fast service. I give them a 3 but less picky ppl would probably rate them a 4.

  • Emily L.

Food: Solid. Crispy fries; melty cheese steaks (bread too soft, onions too blah) and juicy, flavorful fried chicken. Standard beach junk food, expertly delivered. Atmosphere: So-so. Greasy, noisy and not quite clean. Cooks are polite and friendly. Convenience: non-existent. This has got to be one of the last places in the area that doesn't take plastic. Two subs, drinks and fries run almost $40, but they only take cash?! Bad policy. We come here about once a week when we're at the beach, but only because it's close. One of these days I'll break out of my rut and try a new place in the "new" 21st century!

Have been coming back to Anthony's for 30 years. Have never had a bad meal! People who have given a bad review don't know what good food is. Maybe they should stick with the $ menu at mcdonalds.. They have awesome fresh carved roast beef and ham as well as fresh boardwalk fries and excellent cheese steak for all yous guys from philly!

Anthony's has become a traditional piece of our annual family reunion to Bethany Beach, DE / Ocean City, MD. We first discovered this place three years ago on accident when we were driving buy and decided to stop at the "hole in the wall". Wow, the beef and ham on the spits looked incredible and luckily it tasted as good as it looked. I always get a hand carved roast beef with onions, lettuce and tomato. with a side of fresh horseradish. Wow, the buns are fresh and the meat is stacked up high. DELICIOUS!!! You won't be sorry if you are a fellow sandwich junkie! BE WARNED...CASH ONLY

they have the best roast beef and bbq beef sandwiches ever. great location, decent prices and they have parking. tried the pizza once but nothing to write home about. just try the beef, they carve it right there in the window.

Great roast beef and fries. Sandwiches are stuffed. Make sure to ask for horseradish and extra gravy. Will definitely go back next time I am in Ocean City.

#159 After I'd built up an appetite from surfing, I asked around and locals told me this is THE PLACE in Ocea City to go to for sandwiches. The roast beef sandwich is impressive in size. Nice kaiser bun. The horseradish is a perfect complement. The problem is that the roast beef was very difficult to chew through. Instead of being thinly sliced, the slices are so darn huge and tough to chew through that I spent the rest of the afternoon picking out gobs of beef between my teeth. Moreover, the roast beef was quite banal in flavor and texture. I will not be getting this sandwich again. The Reuben is tastier than the roast beef sandwich. This is what I'd get the next time I come here. The beef is tastier, marinated, and the sauerkraut and swiss make for a better combination of flavors. However, my Reuben was extremely greasy and I could feel my arteries clogging with greasy plaques as I was fighting my way through the last few bites. To say the least, I've had much better Reubens that didn't cost me $8. CASH ONLY. Don't know why. It's not like the food is dollar-priced. It's actually kind of expensive to eat here. A sandwich will run you $6-8. Overall, Anthony's is a safe choice if you don't really know what you want for lunch. Serving up typical American food like hamburgers, deli sandwiches and fries.

Back again this year, and I'm telling you this place make us happy. Breakfast sandwiches all around = happy, full, beach bellies. Fried chicken and roast beef sandwiches for dinner: Yum!! Honestly, the best tasting roast beef in Ocean City. It's fresh and lean and delish. I personally am also a fan of the bbq beef, but the family are usually hankering for roast beef sandwiches, or their equally excellent fried chicken, so they don't give the bbq a chance. A big reason I go the full five stars is the staff. The place runs like a Swiss clock and it's interesting to watch them work. They're also courteous and keep everything clean. When we were there this year, a family came in with their two little girls. It was about noon but the girls kept telling their parents it was breakfast time and they wanted pancakes (because on vacation there is nothing wrong with breakfast at noon :-) ). The parents offered lunch items as options, but the gentlemen behind the grill must have heard the girls insistence. He came around and told the dad he would be happy to make the girls pancakes. Tragedy averted! P.S. the girls wanted fries with vinegar on the side of their pancakes. :-) Personal favorites that add to my five stars are good rice pudding and Pepsi products. And they only take cash, but I think there's an ATM.

This place makes breakfast right! The ham, egg, and cheese sandwich hits the spot after a long night. Foods great, very limited seating (4 four person booths), and cash only. Don't forget those key parts.

  • W M.

This is one of the better places to eat in OC. I always get the roast beef sandwich. The beef is made fresh daily and carved right at the counter. Oh and the portions are massive. It's not fancy but it's always packed.

Woohoo! I LOVE this place! I've been going here for over 20 years! I had the ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich with home fries and coffee. It was awesome. So much so, I'm going back tomorrow.

Amazing food. I had the roast beef and the gf had a fantastic cheesesteak sandwich. The meats were great the au jus on the roll was delish and the service was with a smile. Simple and to the point, i would go back when we come back to ocean city.
